Football Match Reports
On Monday 13th March we attended the annual Wodson Park 6 a side tournament, along with 15 other schools from the area.
“We began the day with a 0-0 draw against Morgans. We fought hard and showed great spirit. Our second game was against Mill Mead. With 5 minutes to go, Rovindu scored a beautiful goal from the halfway line and we came away with a 1-0 win. Although we beat Mill Mead we didn't play particularly well. We discussed how to improve and in the next game we beat Christ Church 4-0, having played some very good football. Our final group game was against Priorswood and we won 1-0, finishing top of our group.
In the knock out stages we lost in the semi-final to our local rivals Bengeo 4-1. We were unlucky but they were a strong side. We met Mill Mead in our 3rd/4th place play off game. After extra time it came down to penalties and Finlay Stevens stepped up calmly to score the winning penalty. It was a great day and we finished 3rd out of 15 schools, doing ourselves proud with our attitude and performances”. By Oliver Shanley, Year 6.
Yesterday, Sacred Heart welcomed us to Broadmeads. The game started briskly and we scored 2 in quick succession within the first 15 minutes. In the second half we took a while to get going but when Oliver won a free kick on the halfway line and Charlie scored we really stepped up the pace. Alexander Polley got 2 good goals in the last 10 minutes and Rovindu stepped in for Carlo in goal, keeping a clean sheet. Freddie asserted his dominance at the back with some crunching tackles and Conor looked assured and calm with the ball at his feet throughout the game. We came away with a 5-0 win and are looking forward to our next game against St Andrew's.

Netball tournament at Wodson Park, Monday 6th March
“Last Monday, ten Year 6 girls were very excited to represent our school in a netball tournament at Wodson Park. The matches were played in great sportsmanship and it was very enjoyable. The first match we played was against St Catherine's School and our excellent teamwork helped us to win 3-1. We beat Morgan's School 2-1. Our third match was a draw against St Mary's, 3-3. After that draw, we held our heads high and were able to beat Bengeo 1-0. Since we didn't have many subs we were getting tired and that was one of the reasons for our 1-0 loss to Wheatcroft School. Our final match was straight afterwards and unfortunately we lost 3-0 to Christchurch.
Overall we played to a high standard and even when we didn't win we tried our hardest to make St Joseph's proud of us. Katie played very well and was awarded St Joseph's player of the tournament. Our goal shooters who scored our goals were Jasmine K and Maddison. Well done to all the girls who played in the tournament!” By Rachel Lear.
Match Reports 30th January 2017
“St Joseph’s football team welcomed Abel Smith School to North Road on Monday. The hotly anticipated game did not fail to live up to expectations. A fast game from the outset with St Joseph’s peppering the Abel Smith goal, twice hitting the woodwork before Charlie blasted in the opener with his left foot. Shortly before the break, Luke put it the bottom corner to double the lead. After the break Garrett neatly slotted it past the keeper to make it 3-0. In a half that saw St Joseph’s yet again dominate, Luke finished and the score was 4-0. Two or three Abel Smith attacks, which saw Giliberti pull off some outstanding stops, these were more often than not put to bed by the fantastic Monahan who was instrumental throughout the game”. By Charlie Ciuffa, year 6.
“On Monday the 30th of January we played Abel Smith School at netball. It was a fantastic game and we won our first match 5-2. Sophie and I scored the goals, I scored 4 and Sophie scored 1. “On Thursday 13th October 2016 our football and netball teams went to Hollybush School with high spirits and high hopes ready for the first game of the season. The footballers were satisfied with a good victory and played well as a team which was made clear with a 7-0 win. A game which we fully dominated and all goals were in the first half. The starting line up was strong and the subs when they came on impacted the game in a positive way. Special mention to Carlo Giliberti who made some amazing saves in goal and saved us once or twice. Another mention to Finlay Stevens who played amazingly well and as a result of it got Man of the Match. Not taking anything away from the rest of the team who were also awesome.
