Spring 2

Welcome back to the second half of our Spring Term! We hope you all had a lovely break. This is a shorter half term, but we have lots of exciting learning packed in.

🌍 Our Topic: Global Citizen

This half term our topic is Global Citizen. In Geography, we will be thinking about our impact on the world, how people around the globe live and support one another, and what we can do to help make the world a better place.

We are looking forward to our trip to Hertford Library on 6th March. During our visit, the children will explore a range of books linked to our topic and take part in discussions to share their thoughts and ideas. This experience will support our English work, where we will be writing a persuasive letter to the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom about the world’s litter problem. We are excited to see the children use their voices to speak up about an important global issue!

🔬 Science

In Science, we will be learning about the properties of materials and changes in state. The children will compare and group everyday materials based on their properties, such as hardness, solubility, transparency, conductivity and how they respond to magnets.

They will also use their understanding of solids, liquids and gases to explore how mixtures can be separated. This will include some fun, hands-on group experiments – always a highlight!

🍝 Design & Technology

In DT, we will be focusing on food preparation and nutrition. The unit will end with the children making their own Bolognese sauce. We are sure they will enjoy getting hands-on and developing their cooking skills. I will be in touch closer to the time about a small contribution towards the cost of ingredients.

➗ Maths

In Maths, we are moving on to calculating with decimal fractions. Any extra support at home, particularly practising place value, will really help to build your child’s confidence and understanding.

It’s a busy few weeks ahead, and Easter will be here before we know it! Thank you, as always, for your continued support. We are looking forward to a fantastic half term.
