Phonics and spelling is taught discretely throughout the school. Reception and Key Stage 1 teach phonics everyday whilst Key stage 2 complete 3 spelling sessions a week.

At St Joseph’s we have developed our own scheme that is bespoke to our school. We use the Letter and Sounds sound progression but have developed resources such as sound cards, sound mats, word cards and most importantly decodable books which match the children’s phonic knowledge to help them to develop their reading and writing that is consistent across the school.
