Year 5

Welcome to Year 5.

The children have made a great start in Year 5, developing, learning and understanding the class rules.

This half term we will be learning a lot about space; in English we start by looking at the book Curiosity, about a Mars rover and then move on to biographies, looking at Katherine Johnson and her role in the space race. In history, we look at the space race and the role it has had in the lives we lead today. And in science we look at the process of the Earth orbiting the sun, our moon orbiting us, days and years.

In RE we look at the life of Moses and role he played in the Old Testament. Our topic is called Creation and Covenant.

And in maths we look at understanding tenths, hundredths and thousandths and then move on to adding and subtracting money.

We have made a great start with an amazing trip to the STEM centre which the children all enjoyed and learned a lot.

If you have any questions about what we are learning, what is coming up or something relating to your child, please do just contact me via the school office. Please do refer to the half term topic overview, homework grid and the Meet the Teacher presentation shown on this page.

Times tables songs for practice.
