Parent Information letter Spring 1st

Thursday 11th January 2018

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the start of the Spring Term. We have a very busy term planned in Year 5.

This half term our topic is called ‘Scream Machine. The children will look at the science behind roller coasters and design their own theme park.

Home learning based on our topic will go out this week and is due in on the 8th February. Maths and Grammar home work will continue to go out on a Thursday and is due in on the following Tuesday, please ensure that you support your child with this homework; if they need support from me, please encourage them to see me before the homework is due in.

Reading journal tasks will continue and are due in on a Monday morning. Can you ensure that you listen to your child read daily and sign their reading records. I will continue to collect them in weekly to monitor their reading.

The parent information letter contains more information about this half term.

I wish you all a very happy and holy 2018.

Best Wishes,

Mrs Kelly

Reading Challenge

This term the whole school has been set a reading challenge. The challenge for Year 5 is to read 8 books by the week after the Easter holidays. The list for Year 5 is on our class page and in the back of the children’s reading record. A record sheet is also in the back of your child's reading record book for them to fill in with them.

Bookmarks will be given out and stickers will be added to the bookmark for every book your child reads. When your child completes the reading challenge they will receive a certificate.

The children are very excited to start the reading challenge, they will find it very enjoyable and foster a love for reading a wide range of books.
